In the field of industrial manufacturing, the invention of Robots has brought pioneering changes. Earlier, humans were engaged in doing detrimental jobs, which were very dangerous involving serious health hazards. But, after the invention of robots, everything changed and things became easier.
History of Industrial Robots
Industrial Robots are invented by George Devol and Joseph F. Engelberger in 1956. They had invented the first robot. These robots are initially used in industries where dangerous works such as spot welding, die casting, forging etc were needed to be done. Gradually, robots were used in areas where greater strength and accuracy is required rather than human beings.
What are Industrial Robots?
Industrial Robots are automatic devices that simulate the human behaviour or more specifically behavior. In other words, robots are important part of the science of Automation. However, Automation involves machines and computers that are capable of performing various types of operations.
Derivation and usage of Robots:
The term/word ‘Robot’ is derived from the Czech word ‘robota’, which means compulsory labour. Robots can be used in various industries to perform different functions such as spot welding, material handling, die casting, forging, spray painting, palletizing, ironing, testing, dispensing, picking, water jet cutting and placing heavy good and so on.
Industrial Robots can be made in various sizes and shapes and generally their load carrying capacity depends up on their size and strength.
Competence:
The major advantages of robots are they can work continuously for days and years without any defects/faults. An average human sized robot can carry a load of more than 100 pounds and also it can move it very quickly at the rate of +/-0.006 inches. Due to this reason or for their continual accuracy, robots are becoming essential part of various industries. Most often they are used for welding, repetitive painting, and operations such as placing products, picking up into the machines.
Robots are made up of materials such as steel, cast iron and aluminium and these products are majorly used for making the arms and bases of robots. It is to be noted here that robots can be electronically operated and also laser or radio controlled. The cost of programming of robot is so high but the cost of a a robot is not very huge. In simpler words, we can say that the cost of the robot is just a fraction of the cost of programming it.
Significance of Robots in evolving market:
Significance of robots is escalating each passing day and they constitute a very important part of the modern industries. With the help of robots, things have become simpler, which could not be even thought of around 6 decades ago. They have replaced the manual labour, especially in places where people worked in hazardous working environments. They have brought about revolutionary changes in the field of industrial/plant automation manufacturing.
In recent years, robots have become vital parts in industries such as consumer electronics and food packaging where robots weigh the precision and quality of products when compared to work done by human hands. There is huge demand for Manufacturer of Industrial Robotics due to these applications.
With this, we can say that industrial robots are marvel of engineering!
